CHEMICAL BLACK

The Chemical Blacking process takes place at room temperature. It involves the auto-catalytic reaction of copper-selenide depositing on a stainless-steel surface. Sometimes referred to as ‘Cold Black Oxide’, Chemical Blacking is a cold chemical finishing process used to coat iron and steel.

Chemical Blacking is used for creation of a patina for stainless steel, architectural finishing on steel and tooling.

The Chemical Blacking process offers the following benefits for iron and steel:

  • The finished item experiences no dimensional change
  • The finish is decorative and aesthetically pleasing
  • Unlike hot processes, the metal suffers no distortion
  • Additional corrosion protection is provided by post treatment
